I thoroughly enjoy sharing my love of creativity with people of all ages and skill levels. The greatest compliment is when people tell me that they had FUN and overcame their fear of making art. I teach group art classes targeted at learning to explore, play and use creativity as a stress RELIEF. I also put on programs where I share my Cherokee Language series of art, tell the stories behind them, discuss Cherokee culture and the language. I also have cedar flutes and a drum and can sing in Cherokee.
In August 2024, I was juried into the Kentucky Arts Council's Teaching Art Directory. Through their grant programs, schools, libraries and and other facilities in Kentucky can have me come and teach art and/or present my Cherokee Language Visions: Art, Regalia and Storytelling program. To help illustrate some of the possibilities of a residency with me, I have some examples below. This is not the limit - if you have something in mind, just ask! I have a diverse background in art.

I currently only teach group classes, not individual private lessons.
Me posing with a mural painted by Miranda Meeks' Caldwell County High School Art Class, using my artwork as inspiration (Autumn 2023)
A residency with me can include a wide range of interactive activities for students K-12 that touch on Cherokee and Native American art, music, history and language. I am open to collaborating with teachers and students to create a unique experience for each residency.
In past school interactions, I have:
• Displayed my artwork for the students while we talk about the titles, their stories and teach them some Cherokee.
• Displayed my Native American regalia/clothing, jewelry and accessories, shared their significance, put the clothing on, and demonstrated some Native American dancing.
• Spoken and sang in Cherokee.
• Played my Native American musical instruments and discussed their cultural significance and how they’re made.
• Provided word searches and crossword puzzles based on my artwork titles.
• Students have written poetry about my artwork.
Some additional ideas for the students are to create artwork that shares some of their own family culture, stories or history; have them learn some useful Cherokee words; talk about some of their local history that involves First Nation people; paint gourds or small acrylic canvas and give it a title/name in Cherokee.
Samples of my Abstract Spring Landscapes
In this class, we play, explore, and find joy in painting mini acrylic abstract landscapes. Without using a brush, we'll finger paint, scratch, scribble, and scrape and sand our canvases to reveal deep texture and interest. I offer several versions of this class, making it a little different each time. Some examples are: Autumn, Spring, Summer, Winter, Northern Lights, Eclipse, Lake and Ocean themes.
Gems and Jewels Class Samples
I'll lead you through a low-stress way to drawing colorful gemstone jewels. No drawing experience is needed for this class since Jannette will break it down step by step, showing you how to embellish and personalize your own unique jewels with simple, repetitive patterns. We’ll be using pens and colored pencils on paper in this creative and relaxing form of art.
Growth Rings 5
Using watercolors and ink pens, we take the meditative drawing into an organic circular design. Using the rings in a tree's cross-section as our inspiration, we'll explore simple watercolors, mark making and repetitive shapes.
